The twentieth anniversary of the Caputo Trophy has surpassed all predictions, both in terms of the quality of the proposal from the competitors and with the huge number of participants from all over the world.
Registration closed 3 hours early due to large turnout
22 countries competing, with great participation from the USA, Korea, Japan and Taiwan.
Of all of them, however, the country with the most participants was certainly Korea, with 40 Pizzaiuoli competing, followed by Japan with 21 participants. 3 new entries among the contending countries: Romania, Slovenia and Chile.
There are 11 categories, with a novelty among them too: the Pinsa/metro/pala category also dedicated to Roman pizza professionals.
9 ovens turned on at the same time.
The pink quota was large: 40 Pizzaiuole, with a massive presence from Eastern Europe, made the competition even more varied.
The further novelty of this 2023 edition of the World Pizza Chef Championship - Caputo Trophy was the location. In fact, the Mostra d'Oltremare proved to be a truly valid setting for holding the competitions, with much larger workstations which allowed truly excellent performances, despite the very tight times for each challenge, which cannot exceed 7 minutes. .
Never before has this 20th edition seen not only so many ethnic groups united together towards the goal of excellence, but also so many different ages, with the competition featuring very young competitors: such as Ivan Celio, only 11, from the Lucignolo pizzeria and Ciro Mennella from the Pizzeria Mennella in even, 10 years.
Many emotions in the stands: from the happiness of seeing each other again year after year, to the adrenaline of the competition, but also a great desire to play and discuss technique and ingredients and some tired faces from the long journey.
